Ordering a 3D Cover: What to Send Before Work Starts

3D is our most requested style, and it is also the one that stalls most often before it starts — because the character has to be built from reference material, and half the material usually arrives late. Send this up front and the process begins the same day.

Three photos of your face

Selfies are fine. Shoot from different angles — straight on and in profile at minimum — and include one photo where your build is visible. The character is sculpted from these, so more angles means a closer likeness.

The expression you want

The face carries a 3D cover more than anything else in the frame. Shoot a selfie with the exact expression you want on the cover, or describe it precisely. Do not leave it to be decided later.

Tattoos, if you have them

Face and hand tattoos need their own reference photos. They are easy to miss in a general portrait and expensive to add once the sculpt is already textured.

The look, in pictures

Hairstyle, outerwear, sneakers, chains, accessories. Send images of the clothes you want to be wearing rather than describing them — a photo of the actual jacket settles in one second what a paragraph cannot.

The idea, including the background

Think through not only the character but the scene: what is behind them, and what action is taking place around them. The environment is a separate stage of work in 3D, and it cannot start from nothing.
