Cover Art Is a Visual Story

Some artists treat the cover as an afterthought — the track is finished, so any picture will do. But the cover builds the visual image of the song, and it should carry the same story the song does. You have far more room here than you think.

What a plot on a cover actually means

By a cover with a plot we mean a specific scene or action — a prison break, a shootout, a basketball game. Not a mood, not a colour: something happening. And it has to read easily, at a glance.

Why a scene outperforms a portrait

A viewer will study the details of a scene and work out meanings for themselves, including ones you never deliberately put there. That is time spent on your post rather than on the next one in the feed, and on a visual platform that time is what reach is made of.

It has to exist before the shoot

The scene decides the pose, the wardrobe and the props. Deciding it after the photos are taken means either reshooting or compromising, and a compromised scene reads as a portrait with clutter around it.

The legend matters more than the picture

People do not remember cool visuals on their own — they remember the story behind them. Storytelling has been the reliable way to hold attention for as long as anyone has been trying, and it works the same on a cover. Do not just make a cover; build a legend. Whether it is true or entirely invented does not matter.
